Old-Fashioned Homemade Sandwich Bread

There's something special about the smell of fresh baked bread baking in the oven. It fills the house with warmth, brings everyone into the kitchen, and somehow makes it impossible to wait for that first slice. Add a little homemade butter and your favorite jelly, and you've got a simple comfort that never goes out of style.
This homemade sandwich bread has become one of our family's favorites. It's soft, flavorful, and perfect for everything from sandwiches to toast. Whether you're just getting started with break baking or have been making homemade bread for years, we hope this recipes becomes a favorite in your home, too.
Ingredients
1 cup water, 110°
1 pinch ginger, powdered
1 cup milk, 110°
2/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp. active dry yeast
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup oil or melted butter
5 1/4 cup bread flour
2 Tbsp. melted butter
Directions
Dissolve sugar in warm water and milk, in a large bowl and whisk in yeast and ginger.
Set aside for 10 minutes
Stir in 1 cup flour and whisk in salt and oil.
With the mixer running, add the remaining flour until dough pulls away from the bowl. Approximately 10 minutes...OR...you can knead the dough by hand for 10 minutes.
Do the strecth and fold method until the dough looks like a window pane and doesn't tear.
Oil a large bowl and put dough it in. Put oil on top of dough and cover with a damp cloth.
Allow it to rise until it has doubled in bulk, about an hour.
Punch down the dough and then knead for 3 minutes, divide in half.
Rest for 5 minutes
Shape into loaves and put in a 9x5 in prepared pans.
Brush with melted butter.
Let rise for 30 minutes, or until the dough has risen an inch or so above the pan.
Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until loaves sound hollow when tapped.
Put damp cloth over the loaf when cooling for 5 minutes. Remove the cloth.
Allow to cool completely before slicing.
