Bloom Where You're Planted: Finding Purpose in Your Homestead Journey

In this seemingly fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the temptation of trying to keep up with the Joneses, or even the neighbor next door. For many in the homesteading community, the pull often comes from watching what others are doing and sharing on social media. It can leave us wanting m

ore or feeling like we should be doing more.

Sometimes, it’s hard not to feel that quiet pressure, even if it’s not intended. Many of us experience it.

So how do we overcome it? How do we truly bloom where we are planted?

The answer begins by allowing ourselves to grow right where we are. When we do that, we give ourselves permission to recognize that what we have, where we are, and what we’re doing is actually okay.

In fact, it’s more than okay, it’s meaningful.

Every Season of Life Has a Purpose

Each of us is called for our own reason, in our own season.

And what might that look like?

For some, it may be a season of just starting out. Maybe a young person, college-aged, just beginning to find their footing in the world. Or perhaps a couple starting their homesteading journey, dreaming about their first home and imagining what kind of curtains they’ll hang in the windows.

For others, it might be a couple whose children have grown and left the nest. Now they’re rediscovering their dream of owning land and growing their own food. And for some, it could be an older couple thoughtfully considering what it might look like to slow down and scale back in the years ahead.

Whatever the season, and whatever the reason, we are all in different stages of life.

The beauty of that is we’re given the opportunity to learn in the season we’re in by sitting quietly and listening to the One who is there to guide us.

Start Small and Grow with Intention

Each of us carries a unique talent—a God-given gift. It’s through those gifts that we begin pursuing the dreams placed on our hearts. But it all begins with taking that very first step.

Trying to accomplish everything at once is far from reality. In fact, when people attempt to do it all at the same time, they often end up frustrated, overwhelmed, and feeling like they’ve failed.

The tried-and-true approach is much simpler.

Take one thing.

Learn it.

Master it.

Then move on to the next.

Before long, the things that once felt difficult become second nature, leaving you free to continue learning and growing. From that process comes joy, peace, and a sense of adventure and accomplishment.

You begin to bloom where you are planted.

Just like a seed in the spring pushing its way through the soil, it reaches toward the sun as it grows into the plant it was created to be. In time, that plant produces the fruit or vegetables it was designed to give, becoming a blessing to those who enjoy it.

You are that seed.

Your roots will take time to establish themselves in the soil. Your young stalk will emerge and begin to stretch upward, gaining strength along the way. As you nurture yourself and gather what you need to grow stronger, something beautiful begins to happen.

Before you know it, your strong and vibrant self begins producing in ways that bring glory to our Creator.

So, take a breath.

Enjoy the little moments.

Savor each step forward.

And allow yourself to become who you were created to be.

Bloom where you’re planted.
