This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine…oh yeah!

This morning I was talking to our boys on the phone as they were driving into work and one of them told me I was just a ray of sunshine, any part of the day it didn’t matter…I was always happy. I think the actual point to his comment had something to do with us just singing happy birthday to him, but still, a sweet compliment none the less.
His comment reminded me of today’s devotion.
In Matthew 5:14, we read this from Jesus…
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.”
You are a light of the world…a ray of sunshine…a bright morning beam of sun shining through the window. You…that’s you. God made you into a replica of who He is and with that, He gave us, you, me, the freedom to choose how we perceive things. He gave us the ability to think. With those thoughts comes opportunities. Will we see all the doom and gloom around us, allow the weight of concerns to entrap us…or will we focus in on that brilliantly bright blue bird that just flew in our path, or the sweet songs of the morning birds, or the sweet aroma floating across the breeze that awakens your insides when you take a deep breath.
The opportunity to let your little light shine inside of you isn’t just for you…it’s meant to be for others as well.
Think of a lighthouse. That ray of bright beam shines through the fog and offers guidance to lost ships. It steers them away from jagged rocks and helps them to safely finish their voyage into a bay. That’s God’s light in us. His light is shining so bright that it helps others through their hard times as well.
Jesus didn’t come to this earth to be served, rather, He came to serve. A simple calling for us to follow as well.
By allowing our little light to shine, we’re helping others in ways you may never imagine.
Even on those days you feel beat up, yelled at, or left empty inside…those are the days that God uses us the most!
When we come to Him with empty hands and an open heart, we position ourselves to receive abundant blessings. He knows every part of our needs, desires, and wants. He knows how hard life has been lately and how draining it can feel. He knows our strength is nearly gone, and He tells us, “It’s okay.”
James 1:2-4
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
Come to Him for nurture, fulfillment, and when you do, He is going to fill you so full that His power is going to flow over. It won’t have any chance but to flow out of you! Hence the beams of light shining for all to see.
His power flows freely into those of us who are weak, those of us aware of our need for Him. Even our faltering steps can be proof of our need for Him and aren’t a lack of faith…they are links to His Presence.
Isaiah 40:29-31
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Plug into His power and let His light shine through you for others to see His glorious brightness.
Let that little light shine!
We’d love to hear from you.
What’s one way God has helped your light shine during a hard season?
