From My Kitchen

I absolutley love reading reading old cookbooks. There's just something about the way they were written, the ingredients folks used to cook or bake with, and the stories behind them. This recipe is adapted from a recipe by Mrs. C. R. Evans in Lake Providence, LA, originally published in Talk About Good cookbook, and is one of my favorites.

When you open the front cover of this tattered cookbook, you'll see my Grandma Grace's beautiful handwriting, dedicating this book to my mom:

To- Charlotte Oct. 1974

From- Grace Cooper (mother-in-law)

And then the best part...

To- Jamie

From- Charlotte Cooper (mother)

Oct. 2020

Not only is this such a precious read, but knowing that it was passed down from my Grandma, to my mom, and then to me is what makes this cookbook, and all the recipes in it, just fills my soul.

Isn't that what a recipe is supposed to do? Fill your soul, and your belly.

I also love baking, but baking with a fall flavor is just the best feeling...plus it makes the kitchen smell so good. These cupcakes do just that. They’re soft, flavorful, and just sweet enough for an afternoon treat, family gathering, or something special from the homestead kitchen. Even better, this recipe can easily be made gluten-free with a simple swap for a quality measure-for-measure gluten-free flour blend, no need for an entirely different recipe.

Whether you bake them traditionally or gluten-free, these spiced cupcakes bring all those warm, comforting flavors of the season together in one little cake.
